The Wheels are in Motion…

Planning a trip is never easy. Sure, it starts as an idea, or a doodle on a scrap of paper at work. At first, it is nothing more than a dream…However, soon that dream takes hold, and begins to root. You begin to understand that it is possible and the dream starts to become reality. For Jake and I, the wheels are in motion as we begin to plan more and more. At times, while reading epic trip reports and looking at nail-biting-pictures, I begin to question myself. Why Bother? There will be times when Jake and I will hate it. There will be times when Jake and I will want to throw our packs off a cliff or down a crevasse and say, “To Hell with it all! I want to go home, where I can have a Bath and smother toast in Bacon Fat!” Perhaps, there will even be a time when I want to throw Jake off a cliff, after spending a few months in the tent with him and his smelly socks. In the end, why should we even leave our front doors to begin with? I believe the following quote gives the right reason perfectly, “What we get from this adventure is sheer joy, and joy is after all the end of life. We do not live to eat and make money. We eat and make money to be able to enjoy life. That is what life means and what life is all about.” -George Leigh Mallory. Even though the trip will have unpleasantness, it will also have moments of beauty. It will be those moments, that will make it all worth it and we will forgot all those dreadful planning moments.
